In 2004, the Federal Council approved the launching of NRP 57 and mandated responsibility for conducting the NRP to the Swiss National Science Foundation. Until now, 11 out of 36 project proposals have been selected by the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The research has started in January 2007.
